Earthtones

Sale price Price $14.00 Regular price Unit price  per

Earthtones is inspired by the colors of clay bodies found in nature. Warm comforting tones ranging from browns, to earthy reds, and muddy yellows. Earthtones tasting notes are dark chocolate, toasted almonds, with a hint of candied orange. This is a fuller body coffee that captures strong rich chocolaty notes and light candied orange that lingers on the tongue. This coffee can be enjoyed both as a pour over or espresso. As an espresso it has a wonderful maple syrup mouth feel. As a pour over it is comforting and cozy just like the first snow day of the year.  Enjoy it’s complexities on its own or soften with milk, a crowd pleaser either way.

As the Season changes, so will Earthtones. Just like fruits and vegetables have different seasons, so does coffee. As our coffee offerings change we find coffees from different origins that capture similar characteristics.

This seasons Earthtones is made up of Teotepec, Mexico
The growers behind Teotepec are the result of new relationships that Caravela established in this area with 34 female and 78 male farmers—all members of the association HERBERADA in the municipality of La Montanan in Guerero. As farms here are in remote areas, they have been deeply affected by low prices in the past so producers do not normally own their own micro-mills.  This limitation has not stopped this group of producers. They have sought out new and better ways to work to improve their quality and sell their coffee as a united group. Each family carefully collects ripe cherries and later floats them to remove lower density beans and foreign matter.
After this, the cherries are sun-dried on concrete patios and straw mats for 15 days.  By processing the coffee as natural, they have been able to earn higher premiums and to find new homes for their tasty coffees.
