Finca El Brillante is located in Santa María, Huila, Colombia, and is managed by father-son duo Alberto Lizarazo (63) and Carlos Alberto Lizarazo (25). The farm spans 11 Ha of land, with 8 Ha dedicated to coffee cultivation at an elevation of 2,100 m.a.s.l. Here, they grow Pink Bourbon, Geisha, Caturra Chiroso, and Ombligón varieties, while preserving the remaining land as native forest.
Their processing begins with the selective harvesting of ripe cherries, which undergo a 24-hour fermentation in sealed bags. The cherries are then depulped and dry-fermented in tanks for 50–60 hours, washed minimally to conserve water, and finally dried in a marquesina (covered structure) for approximately 15 days.
Alberto Lizarazo has been a coffee farmer all his life. He inherited Finca El Brillante from his parents when he was 40 years old, and now he hopes that his son, Carlos Alberto, carries on with this tradition.
This father and son duo make everything at the farm work. From harvesting to processing, they handle every aspect themselves.
